Someone else will have to evaluate the Harbor Freight 14". I know a lot
more about metal lathes than wood lathes. But a wood lathe is not a high
precision tool (I've seen Popular Mechanics articles on how to make one at
home out of timber), so it's a fairly good bet this one would satisfy you,
and HF has a good return policy. The best thing to get first might be a
book on how to use a wood-turning lathe, which would give you advice about
lathes, chisels, etc.
