[RunningOnEmpty2] Germs

Hello All....

Everyday is a learning expirence and thru this group I have learned
that sometime the best advise you can get is from people that have
the same mindset. I would like to relay to you a situation that
unfolded at work. As some of you know I work in a warehouse. Well
until about 3 weeks ago the heater was broken. Working in a 30 degree
warehouse is no fun but one of the things that got me thru was in my
mind I thought "How hard would a Fast Crash be".... In that case I'd
better 'get some grit'.... IMHO no heat until other arrangements
were made could be a reality, and sometimes it is just weather
related as it was up North in Nov-Dec..... I am smart enough to know
that until you truely have to live without something it isn't
reality. If you don't believe me go to your garage or outside and
turn off the main power to your house, just for one 24 hour period.
Point is I had no idea I could be that cold and still work.

The one thing that I had not considered is that when you get a group
of people together in a physically stressful environment, someone is
going to get sick.... I managed to dodge the 'head cold' that has
been passed around for two months now. These young healthy 19-25 y/o
are walking around 1/2 dead.... Luckily, age and wisdom kept me ahead
of the game until I went to the doctor's office for a blood test that
was needed. I tried not to touch things in my usual paranoid fashion
and used my hand sanitizer as well but to no avail I was sick in 3
days.... High fever and my lungs were 1/2 full 6 hours after the
first hint of illness.... Very bad bug. I gathered up all of the
tools that I used that day and kept them together so I could 'Lysol'
them the next day. I went home and tried to sleep myself well. The
next day my fever was even higher. I have to go to work because I
only work 3-13 hour shifts and to miss a day is like missing a day
and a 1/2 at a regular job. Not good. Since I was working alone on
scanning product, I kept my ski mask on so I could cough and not
contaminate too much, and kept my hands sanitized and my cart 'Lysol-
ed' as best I could.... I knew everyone around me had a cold, but I
knew that this was different. I figured since I got it at the
doctor's office it was probably drug resistant or if nothing else
this person had it bad enought to actually go to the doctor for
help...... Well this was the day that our W-2s came in. Our HR Lady
brought them around for us, but, we 'had' to sign for them. I would
normally argue with the stupidity of TPTB to have us 'sign' for them
but I was soooo sick. All I could muster was a plea of...... I am
really, really, really sick. I can't use your pen. She didn't even
hear the 'your pen' part. In her HR tone she responded to
me, "Everyone is really, really, really sick. Just sign........ OMG
I just about lost it. I started to argue but I stopped and
said 'fine' grabbed the pen, signed the page and threw the pen back
on her clippboard.... She said 'Thank You' in that Victorious
tone.... Well I was soooo mad because of all of the effort I made
and always make to try not to spread my germs around and make other
people sick. I'm sure it is not 100% perfect but I thought it had
worked up until now..... I was shocked at her blatent disregard for
everyone's well being.... This was a pen she immediately handed to
the guy next to me.... Then she had the audacity to make a comment
about how I must not be that sick or I wouldn't be a work.... Did I
mention she works in the heated office???? Well the next morning she
wasn't feeling well. I did not recognize her she looked that bad.
She almost lasted 3 hours. She apologized to me before she went home.
Now the 'fever' is being passed around like the 'cold' was in Jan.
Some of the guys on the line were joking around about plotting to get
her fired because they got sick too..... But they were just making
fun of the whole situation....

I know this has been a long and drawn out post but here are some
thoughts to ponder..... Fast and Slow Crashers alike....

What steps are you taking to prevent getting the next germ?? Do you
even think about it??? I personally carry a pen with me most of the
time so I don't have to use the one at the doctor's office or the one
at the bank.... I am trying to train myself to be aware of shopping
carts and always grab a door/handle in an odd place that most people
don't touch. Like the verticle handles on bathroom doors I always
pull them at the bottom part.....

What would you do if you didn't have any electricity/heat and
everyone was sick???

How would you react if someone in your family got really sick because
of someone else's neglect.

Does anyone on here have a recipe for vapor rub or the kind you put
in the humidyfier??? Or maybe an old family recipe handed down????

And the last question which is what made me get on here and write all
of this....

I understand there is a difference between grain and wood alcohol. I
can make the grain.... Now how do I make the wood alcohol for my
obsession with sanitation????? Or is the grain just as good... And
how in the world do I get it to thicken so I can put it in a squeeze
bottle for my work/life mobile 'I don't want to get sick bag'???

Thanks for listening to me vent and all of the information so freely
given on this group. I feel we should plan for the worst and hope for
the best.
